I was wondering whats the best way to acclimate stingrays? I searched and some say that dripping them is not safe and some swear by it. Some say if they are in bags just bring them up to temperature by floating them and your fine. The reason why I ask is because I keep cichlids and are pretty damn hardy fish and rays are a little more sensitive to swings of ph and etc.

I just don't want to ray to be more stressed out and die as a result. I always did the bag thing on top of the tanks for 20 minutes put the water it came with in a bucket and put the fish in.

Also the fish will be max inside the styrofoam box or bucket for an hour max.

Rays in question will be motoro.

If they look stressed when you open bag or the water looks bad then get them in the tank water asap.
Preferably I like to scoop a little water out of the tank and add to the bag the Ray is in. Do this a couple times over 15-20 min and then release.
Keep it simple they are usually pretty Hardy!!

I know I'm overthinking things I was thinking the exact same thing. Most likely it won't be dirty its an hours drive from my home. I'll do that. I added some prime yest to make sure nitrates were low as well.

Thanks for the help.

I really don't treat them different than any other fish . Keeps advice is good

Luckily my Ray's come from just up the road so same water chemistry so all I do is bring up to temp add a little water and with in 15-20 mins there in my tank , what I will say each acclimation of fish u buy depends on the situation u are delt . Where u buy it from how good the water in the shipping bag is and so on

I'm in the same boat as Ashley. I buy my Rays locally so water params are pretty much the same except for ph. My tank ph sits around 7.3 and I don't know the ph it came from, so I slow drip for 30 mins (taking water out every 5 mins). Everyone has their own ways of acclimating and swears by it. Just follow what you feel is right for you. Just remember, majority of rays are sensitive to changes in water chemistry so depending on how long the shipping was or how long it's been in a bag will help determine which approach to take.

For me it all depends on the amount of time in transit. I had 3 pups shipped to me and by the time I got them home they where 14-16 hours in the bag I quickly opened the bag and tested amonia which was threw the roof so at that point your in a rock and a hard place, do you shock them with your water perameters or leave them to possibly get amonia poisoning. I personally got them the heck out of there and had no I'll effects from shocking them

Thanks guys I treated the Rays like any other fish I would get. Picked the guys up locally last night and are fine this morning.
