Shy Baby Oscar Fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The convict I added is alittle smaller than the Oscar. They will be fine together. The Oscar is going to grow quicker than the convict.

Just saying Smokey you will need to upgrade I don't think you should even keep a single Oscar for life in a 55. I also would not keep convicts with Oscar just from my experience the convict I used to have beat on,my Oscar bad even when he was 10 inches the convict still fought him! In a 75 I would recommend a bottom feeder if you want a tankmate may I suggest a featherfin catfish I love mine or you could add a different cichlid I guess you could get a way with a firemouth or blue acara. Just make sure to have sight blockers and quite a,few, caves.

The Oscar isn't staying in the 55g for life. The convict will be pulled out and put in the 125g when they both hit 5". The 55g tank is in my sons room and will be upgraded to a 75g or 90g. I just wanted a wet pet for his room. Just keeping the convict now for company.

Ok sounds good just was staying that I feel Oscar's need bigger than 55 gallons was all I just like the 18 inch depth of a 75 so glad to hear you will upgrade him!

The fish has not been eating for the past few days. Right now I can see he/she only accepting Tetra Colorbits which is low quality fish food per the experts on here.

I have not yet found any other fish I like to add to the tank. I saw some youtube clip showing a wolf chichlid which is too big and too aggressive I think. But it is definitely a cool fish.

Alright, I added a 4" firemouth and it chases my 3" Oscar. I'm not sure why my Oscar's growth slowed down.

I saw the Oscar would just hide behind the filter intake tube near the top of the water surface. The firemouth would swim close to him and nip at it.

I thought the Oscar supposed to be the aggressor. Anyway, I'm not sure I should add more fish to divert the aggression of the firemouth.

Honestly, Oscars are wimps when it comes to other cichlids. Sure they can bully non aggressive fish.
