flowerhorn has injury near anus

Yea a bit lol in better light you can tell it's more of a tear from the anus out to his left side

I would do water changes everyday until he gets better. If he gets infected there he can die from secondary infections. Salt as well. Flowerhorns are hardy fish it should be fine. If its that of an open cut I would sedate it with clove oil and stitch him up and remove the stitches in a week. Thats last resort.

I thought that as well but OP stated it was some wood that penetrated his anus that caused the injury...god that sounds just awful lol
One of my first thoughts actually was that he blew out his ******* until I took a closer look and saw the tear

I had my FH before the one I have now do it while I was on vacation. Looked like a tear from his anus to his pectoral fins. His insides were hanging out and everything. All in all he didnt seem to be phased by it but eventually it killed him. I'd be willing to bet yours is the same

Yeah if its not from trauma I would try to treat the prolapse with epsom salt then.

OP stated they were unsure what caused it but assumes it to be that
Still unsure of the exact cause but definitely leaning towards him getting injured on that wood.

Gonna stick to daily water changes with salt til he's doing better. Depending on how he's looking in a couple days I may pick up some supplies to stitch him up.

Good to know I'll add this to the list of treatments and soak some pellets in Epsom salts when I feed again later
