I know there is a post on this but what is the most amount of water you would put behind a 1/2 inch glass panel tempered if that matters

The amount of water behind the glass panel really doesn't matter. Water pressure is related to height. If the pane is too tall it's gonna be at risk no matter how much water behind it, if it's the proper height you could put miles of water behind it.
That depends on where you have the glass. You can use 1/2" glass on a 60" tall tank if you have it at the top 30" of the tank. But the bottom of your glass should be no deeper than 30" under the surface of the water. Most people would just make their tank 30" tall in that case, have the glass from top to bottom but there are other options.

He is right, you can go as high as you like, but the water can be no more than 30 inches high on the glass, anymore and the safety factor will be drastically reduced.
