I have a tank with filters in the corner. since it is unsightly, I covered the section with glass with one side painted black. The filter eventually started to rub into the paint and the paint started peeling. Is there a way of painting glass to make the paint stick better ? I was thinking of using sandpaper on the glass, note that the UNPAINTED side is the one that will be seen from the front, so if i use sandpaper, will the scratches be visible from the other side ? If sandpaper is viable solution, what grade of sandpaper will i need to use ?

I don't know whether the sanding will be visible or not, but why don't you just apply some boxing/packaging tape to the areas of the paint where the filters is rubbing up against.
Can not use tape the glass is submerged in water, its some sort of moving bed filter so the whole glass is being scratched...
might be easier to add a another pane of glass to protect the painted one...thanks for the idea...
Easiest way to do it is to sand blast the glass so it is etched then your paint will stick. Only way I know paint sticks to glass and won't come off.

Why not use a black plastic instead? A weir of sorts should do the trick, like what people use in corner overflows.

If he can take it out to repaint, ie it's not siliconed in place, I would just use a different material.
