Help IDing cause of death.

Hi, i discovered yesterday that one of the original WC azuls was in terrible condition. Im thinking that its due to water quality issues (lots of rain has caused top-water soil erosion to bring in sediments into my pond making it murky) that caused swim bladder problems leaving him floating and belly getting burned by the burning heat from the sun. At the same time i also lost a 24" grass carp. do u guys think so or is it more likely due to a fight?. anyways RIP buddy thanks for the good times and the baby's u have left me :(

Thats a bummer. You could be correct on your assumption. Do you have and overflow and drain to another pond? Or maybe an airater in the pond?

ANd you already have a bunch of plants like lotus and lillies in the pond correct?
Maybe try planting some tall grasses and plants or bushes around the pond in areas that you think is an issue or could use something for the eye to help filter and catch debris before they go into the pond next time.
 
Yup i do have an overflow system that drains water out. i guess its time to go shopping for plants :p thanks for the suggestion

That would help immensly I believe. And a large pond airator could have saved him as well.
I would do both if it were me.

What would be really rad is if that overflow went into another pond of smaller size. Down there you could raise juvies or other types of bass all together. Im pretty jealous you are able to have a pond outside with cichla. Lucky dog you!

more juvies? oh i think not. the fries being produced is too great due to the lack of predators that i had to introduce other predator fish to keep it in check. the pond used to have tons of tilapia (1000+) but now there are barely any with the larger peacocks having a buffet (20inchers that swallow a 5 inch tilapia whole!) and all the baby peacocks munching on the tilapia fry :confused: whole damn pond is unbalanced.
 
the orginal azuls were 6" when introduced and now a year later the biggest caught up was 23"

Did you add any cool preds? ANy aro's in the pond?
Like i said...i would add a few tigs to hope for them to breed.
