Maybe he's just skeptical about believing certain things that ur minds just don't think sound right when we 1st hear them and we have to roll it around a bit before it starts to sound logical.....

......For instance, take me for example just being told Gymnogeophagus can live for 2-3 months in water that is 40F-50F.........Dude, my mind is BLOWN over that atm.....I'm still not sure i'm comfortable trying it, but the more I think about it, it makes more sense considering Uruguay and Argentina are NOT that different from sub-tropical and possibly even temperate U.S.

Cichlids live in FL canals and bodies of water.....I lived in FL and I can tell you, even the KEYS get cold 40-50F .days .....Alligators can tolerate temps in the 40's as well.

See what I mean? I'm still in disbelief, but logic and science utilized - I'm sort of convincing MYSELF. Give him some time
Im not sure whether youre being serious or not, but this is clse to what im feeling i guess.

The thing that i am not convince on is the science behind it. Do fish actually do worse in a smaller tank thats taken care of very well, or is it just that humans think they are cramped... This is what ive been asking all along and ive not really gotten an answer to it.

Im not trolling though... Which doesnt help me sound like any more of a "good" fishkeeper to you, im sure... But i am actually serious...

Jay stated the following in his article:

I think what aquarists need to be mindful of is not just what Jay stated, but also the overall mental health and stimulation that a fish will receive in captivity. Overcrowding is a known trigger of stress in fish, and there are researchers (a number of them) that now believe that finfish can experience things such as pain, they have long term memories, and can even experience forms of mental illness. Many of us have read about, or seen first hand this type of behavior, such as an adult fish losing their life long mate, and then moping in a corner and refusing to eat for days/weeks on end.

Mental Illness

I think that one has to take in more than just the physical characteristics of the fish, and their environment, but also the psychological aspects of keeping an animal in captivity.
This kind of stuff is what i was looking for... Its much more important to me that just an opinion... No offense meant, of course.

I didnt know above things, thank you for sharing this.

Im not trolling. I Actual info is much more helpful to me than opinions. Facts are facts. I didnt know that fish could suffer mental problems or that small tanks have an actually detrimental affect. I just though that you guys mostly just thought they looked "too big" which isnt a wonderful reason to lusten. What RD posted about health issues in smaller tanks even if they are well maintained is the type of info ive been asking for and its the type of stuff i will listen too! I cant see why this whole idea made you all so pissy to be honest.

Due to RD actually posting something that contained factual evidence and not just his own opinion, ive decided to not get a jag for now.
