ID just got this lfs $5

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
20 years ago I could walk into a LFS and be reasonably sure what was marked, was what it was said to be.
I don't believe that anyone can know if any Vieja (or just about any cichlid) is what it is called these days.
Sad but true, there is no way seeing a photo, or even live, that anyone can tell what any Vieja is just by looking. In any spawn, a certain percentage, look like the mother, and equally so, the father. But either would be a hybrid in a crossing, so you can give a name like king-sumo this, or kokface that, in the end, a mutt is still a mutt.
Kokface it is.

Stanzzzz7 Stanzzzz7 may have an opinion about the first one.
The veija looks like a true fenestratus to my eyes.
However I do agree with duanes in that the over spill of hybrids in the hobby is making true species Id increasingly difficult.

Sorry I wasn't making a statement about the fish in the pic, just a general rant, that in today's world where every Tom, Dick and their brother think its "cool" to create hybrids, and muddy the water by randomly dumping them at LFSs, instead doing the decent thing and culling the bastards, it is really impossible to properly ID anything.
The only way I'd buy anything these days, is from a reputable breeder or source I know.

I love all fish. I have had some pure bred to hybrids and I love them all. To each their own.

Culling fish based on it being hybrid is just pure wrong. Culling fish are usually due to deformities. I think we can all here agree all blood parrots should be culled lol they're deformed and look goofy.
