How many animals is too many animals?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
LoL, I have a rather large one, ,,,, smoker guys smoker, mind out of the gutter.

ok. I have 7 cats, 7 kids, 3 tanks, 2 dogs and a wife. my plate is full enof. :p
I remember you saying 7 kids (and cats) before, still amazed that you manage to do that. I could never have more than 4 between cats and dogs, no more than 2 of them being dogs.

I currently have a planted tank (70ish litres) and a 10 litre shrimp cube, then a hospital tank behind the scenes. This is enough for me, though it's my gf that wants to set up my empty 90, I'm indifferent towards it lol
You lucked out - I don't think many of us have girlfriends/spouses that WANT to set up more tanks :D

One wife, one Boxer dog named Otto Mattick*, two pre teen kids, two parakeets, three tanks. Tanks... 110G Oscar named Darwin** and dithers ,57G mix tropicals for the kids and wife, 20G with a batch of convict fry and their dad and a 3 tier Koi and gold fish pond in the back yard with 30+ fish. (they are hard to count)
The 110, 57 and Koi/goldfish pond is designed with automatic water replenishment and exchange. Whole house has power backup.

The Koi pond setup is a real joy in our house. It has been running for 6 years, is largely trouble free and can go for 2 weeks unattended if need be. Fish and plants all settled in and working well and the ponds look great and all natural with well established moss, ferns, flowering plants and surroundings.

*Best dog I have ever owned and I have had a bunch.
** House rule is "Never ever name a fish" But an Oscar is not just a fish now is it? .

I currently have one 75 gallon tank with four goldfish running and would like to upgrade as soon as I move to a new house..

As for my plans on fish I plan to keep the same number of fish and keep them in a 500 gallon or 800 tank. The reason why this might sound strange is I would like to learn how to operate a 800 gallon tank but keep fish in it that are easy to take care off.

Another idea about my fish is that I view that they are pets that a part of the family and are meant to be seen all the time in a tank in the family room. Such as I wouldn't keep dozens and dozens of tanks of fish in a basement or garage.

But in terms of this I personally think it's fine for people to keep a hundred tanks if they want if they can take care of the fish.
