Hey guys so I currently have a 2-3inch Rhom in a 20gallon tank. I recently purchased a Fahaka Puffer. So I was thinking about using the 20g tank the rhom is in to breed ramshorn snails. I do not have an extra tank atm that I can do this in. Is there any reason why this is a bad idea?

If you dont mind the look of a serra tank filled with snails then I dont think it should be an issue. Then again you do have to take into consideration how many times youll be distrubing the serras tank to get the snails out. Could possibly stress your fish out.

I have a few assassin snails in with my big rhom, he doesnt bother them at all.

You can just get a big cheap tub from the hardware store or walmart. Put your snails, some gravel, water, and plants and your good.

Im confused..how does the puffer factor in?
Are they in the same tank or something?

I hadnt thought of that thanks! I like the tub idea.

Haha the fahaka eats the snails which is why I want to breed them.

I actually use a 5 gallon bucket for my ramshorn snails as well. I use a small plastic heater and sponge filter in it. You may have better luck with a tub though.

Ok cool thanks guys! So my understanding is that pretty much they will breed so long as they have some sort of vegetation in there and food. Is that right? I could pull off the 5 gallon bucket idea a lot easier than I could the larger tub because of space. What would I need to do to have that work?

What I use - 5 gal bucket, air pump for a small sponge filter, small heater, snails, food. I also use a lid and just crack it open just enough for the air lines and power cord.

Yeah, the tub idea works. I love snails and so does my puffer fish.
Snails are only a problem if you over feed. If you have too many snails, it means that your tank is out of balance. Here is a closeup look at the ramshorn snail.
