Vieja synpsilum sex

So I have a vieja synpsilum and I tired to vent but I suck at venting. It is 3-3.5" and started to show some colors on it. Do vieja have a tell on a way to sex them? Here's some pics

I got another smaller one and they're always together.

I'm hoping this is a male I got a lot of females already and want a male for a breeding project

they're a hard one to sex....and I think yours is still too small....I think MINE at 6" is too small, TBH. I'm guessing female for mine since there is also a 4" Syn and they get along perfectly, but sorry, I guess that doesn't help you out. lol I can post pix of mine if u want, best I can do far ya

U sure it's a Synspilum, it's pretty drab for a Redhead, mine looks nothing like that except the shape

I just took these it was sleeping minus the Rays lol it is way more colorful than this at times his head is so red I get shocked to see at young age. It's insane at night my Midevil is sleeping it has the weirdest hue of orange.

Can they breed at this size? I need this guy hopefully to make some kamfa Flowerhorn with a bonsai red dragon. Please no one shoot me on this sub section lol

There are subtle differences in veija that you will be able to see if you have both sexes together to compare.It is quite hard to tell these differences if you only have the one fish.
From around 5 to 6 inches you should be able to see a slight difference in head shape.Females head will be more sloped when compared to the males more rounded cranial profile.

These two are an old pair I had some years back.They are a little older than your fish so the male head shape is more pronounced. The very early stages of this development is what you should be looking for in a male.



The other way of telling is by comparing dorsal fins,again the difference is very subtle.
The dorsal fin starts low then runs all the way down the fishes back at one level until near the end where it rises slightly.
You can just see the rise on the fish at the bottom front of this picture.



On males this will rise steeply when compared to that of a female.
The difference will be slight so to sex one fish below a certain age is hard.If the two sexes are together you should see these indicators if studied closely.
The fish in the photo above are two adolescent males at the bottom and two young females above,you can just see the difference.
