African Lungfish w/ head injury/HITH

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I also have little to offer on lungfish.
However any cichlid I have had that showed any signs of hith I treated with metro. As said before, keep the water scrupulously clean and provide a good diet.
As I know little about lungfish I would check that metro is agreeable to the species.

metronidazole?

a picture would be helpful. I like them but to me they are a one fish per tank so you have to be ok with that.

no ideal about lung fish, any new fish from the LFS should be quarantined and treated for parasite IMHO, as for HITH, pristine water, good diet, low stress and time the only cure I know of that works.

I've got couple of Africans, 1.5' and 2.5'.

Are you sure these are not sensor holes? The head of my 2.5'er is full of holes:

0:00 to 0:25

definitely not....I can see a large crevice white in color, looks like HITH or some type of scar

I can't...it's still at the LFS

I'm not aware of them being prone to HITH. They will get lateral line erosion if they don't get enough fiber. I feed all of mine catfish wafers at least 3 times a week.

Lung fish cannot be killed. Injuries always and I mean always heal. They can live in human waste. Lol OK maybe not that bad but seriously I would take a chance. My lung fish butchie (that sadly died after 30 years) came to me after his tank mate ripped off all his "legs" and his entire side. He had massive injuries and he healed amazingly well. As long as they eat they heal.
