Playing Musical Fish Tanks (And I Have A Question)

Down the bottom will be a question, but first...

Omg I can't believe I'm doing this. My hubby fell in love with a little munted silver dollar at the lfs, so now we're playing musical fish tanks. But it gets worse, I'm going to have to go back on a promise I made to myself when I first got pets: don't get an animal unless I'll be able to provide for it, for its entire life. Well, in order to play musical fish tanks I'm going to have to rehome some of my goldfish, as I'll need to swap the silver dollars into a bigger tank once I add the new one, and currently don't have a spare 2k laying around to buy another 5ft tank with.

So here's the plan: I'm going to "lend" my largest four goldfish to my auntie for her (800ltr-ish) pond, and move the smaller five into the 4ft tank, the current residents of the 4ft tank will go into the 5ft tank (plus the new dollar after he's done in quarantine).

Now, am I able to just net the fish from each tank, put in their respective buckets for 45mins, do a 100% change on both tanks, and just fill them up at the opposite temperatures? For example, my 5ft has been sitting between 12-15°c (room temp atm), my 4ft around 24°c, could I just fill the 5ft up at 24°c and the 4ft with just plain old cold water? Or will the temperature swings mess with my BB and crash my cycle?

The temperature change should not crash your cycle, HOWEVER i would not recommend 100% water changes. A 800 ltr or 211 gallon pond is kind of small. Also a 4ft tank is way too small for 5 goldfish once they are fully grown. What are you planning to do with those 5 goldfish once they get big. Also what other fish are in your aunt's pond?

My aunt currently has one 3inch goldfish in her pond, I'd be putting mine in her pond one at a time, over a few weeks. They currently all (minus my large comet) "fit" (I hate the term, hence the quotations) into the 4ft, so I'd have a few weeks to add them slowly to her pond without "extreme" over crouding in the 4ft.

I'm aware that none of my arrangements are suitable for my goldfish full time, we were supposed to be getting a pond put in but long story short we wasn't able to do so. We're looking into buying a house in the next few years (gota save more for the deposit first) and putting a large pond in, then I'll get my goldfish back from my aunt and that will be their permanent home. If that all made sense?

And before its asked, my goldfish are x1 comet, x1 fantail, x6 hybrid babies from the two and x1 blue oranda. I'll be sending my comet and three largest babies to my aunt, with the comet being the first to go (he's the largest).

Also, you can not keep fancy goldfish such as fantails and orandas with comets. The comets will not allow the fantail and oranda to get food. What do the babies look like? Can they swim fast like a comet or are they kind of chubby and slow swimmers like the fantail?

Bahahahaha!!! You think my comet eats all the food? Other way around, the fantail hogs the food, she's fat but she's fast. When I brought my comet he had a droopy mouth (kind of looks like he's had a stroke) so he can't eat as quickly as a standard comet, if anything his mouth puts him at a disadvantage to the others. Another reason I picked him as one of the ones to go to the aunts, is her pond is covered in algae that her little goldfish can't possibly eat so my comet should be able to graze at will instead of waiting for pellets to get thrown in and potentially missing out - don't worry, they'll get pellets in the pond as well.

And my babies are long like their dad but fat like their mum. Idk how to explain it, they're long with singular tails like a comet but also have fat bellies like fancies do.

Didn't you just read her tell you she has had all the types of goldfish together successfully for all this time that you just told her she CAN'T keep together??

LOL I don't mind. I'd rather have someone down my throat about these things without need than have them ignore telling others when they need the knowledge. I just answer politely.

As long as they all get food, it is fine. I had to move my ranchus into their own 40 because they could not get any food. I had them in a 55 with 3 small comets. It is generally not reccomended to keep fancies with comets because of the fancies not getting food, but as long as they all get food, it is fine to keep them together

Lol yeah, they all get food. I'd be a little weirded out if 3yrs of starvation didn't kill them.. I mean, I know goldfish are considered "hardy" fish (although I kind of dispute that, hardy - yes. For beginners with 30ltr tanks - not so much) but they're not invincible.


I was more worried about the temperature swings killing my BB.

Yeah goldfish really need at least 20 gallons, preferably 40. The BB should be fine even with the temperature swings
