Heros severus aka "Red Tiger Severum" aka "Rio Curare" from Wetspot?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Wetspot began offering them a few months ago. Who ordered from them and can you share some pictures? I'm interested in how they turned out.

I think there is an issue because a lot of them do not have the diagnostic half-seventh bar. Even at 1/2" - 3/4", all the hundreds of fry from my wild pairs had it. Either these have been mixed with fry of another Heros species (someone at Wet Spot was questioned and they admitted there were "contaminants" in the batch), they are hybrids, or they aren't severus at all. Heros sp. Inirida, for instance, sometimes show a half-bar, though it's not in every fish.

In wild-caught specimens 100% of the fish have it, so F1 or F2 fry should also.

Something to consider.

He would be the resource on here to contact. I assume there would be variation like with many heros. Below water was the place to go for them some months back, but they were pricey and importing is less fun.

The one person I knew who got them lost all but 1 to an ich outbreak. The one that he has left has no half seventh bar.

He asked Wet Spot for pictures of the parents and they sent him one from the breeder. Google Reverse Image Search shows that the picture is directly from Oliver Lucanus/Below Water, but he's not breeding F1, so I guess the breeder doesn't have pictures of his or her own fish...

I'm actually specifically interested in what Wetspot is selling, as of now they appear to be the only practical source...

Does anybody have fish from them that are big enough to kinda see what they are turning out to be? I'm interested in a group but need a little more info.

Hey peathenster, Ryan was referring to me earlier. I have one left but the fish is only around 2". I can post some pictures when the fish begins to put on some size. S/he is still recovering from the ich epidemic.

jandb jandb were yours from wetspot?

I bought 3 from wet spot a few months ago. 2 survived and one is really thriving. Of the two left, one has the correct seventh half bar on both sides and the other has the correct bar pattern on only one side. I will try to get some pics tomorrow. As far as I can tell, the one with the correct bar pattern, which is also the larger one, appears to be getting coloration consistent with the pictures of red tiger severum.

I also asked the wet spot for pics from the breeder and got a pic of only one fish, not even a pair so that did seem pretty shady.

I will try to get a pic tomorrow and post it so you can see.
