What kind of budget should I be looking at?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
One impressive display will have a more lasting impact I think. Maintenance would be less as well with a drip system and Ultimas or some such

What a great gift to give back, think long term even after you are gone. Your single penultimate setup that will carry on for generations; a legacy tank!

Oh, and pics are a requirement ;)

Seems like this is going to be to much buddy. I would scrap the saltwater plans, give them a nice 600 gallon native tank and a lightly stocked 600 gallon amazon biotope tank. You will be looking at a budget of around $7000 depending on what you can get donated. I wouldn't do salt, look at the cost of one 200 gallon bucket of salt. That system would not be cheap to maintain in any way and I can't see reef octopus donating one of their custom $2000 skimmers to maintain a 600 gallon tank. I can't see the same thing happening at coralvue or hydro either. I'm fairly aware of the wholesale market myself and I can't see them providing their products for free or under the wholesale, you would be surprised at the actual price of wholesale, it's probably much higher then you are thinking. So even at wholesale the saltwater tank alone will put you around $5000 assuming you buy the 600g tank second hand for cheap

So, you, by yourself will be caring for all of these tanks? But you also have a full time job and tanks of your own? How exactly do you plan on fitting all of this in to your personal life? All of the large fish you are wanting require very specific diets and need to be fed daily. You are literally talking about a full time job caring for these guys unless you trust anyone at the school enough to properly feed, check water parameters, and daily monitor these guys.

And, as others have said, 100 gals of water change on a 600 gallon tank is nothing. Thats roughly a 16/17% water change, that isn't enough even for the second stock list you released. My 220 is lightly stocked with a 55 gal MB sump and I still change 80-85% of the total tank volume every week. Even with a drip system, I feel like you will be battling nitrates unless you are dripping 100 gallons a day.

I understand the want for all the different types of aquatic animals, but I can't help but thing a 1500-2000 gallon freshwater tank with all the monsters you are wanting would be easier, cleaner, and look way better than a hodge podge of random crap on a wall in a school.
Yeah, I'm starting to come to my senses about this. The man with the money... turns out he has no money yet. He's waiting for a donor which he never brought up to me. I am thinking one tank, 600 gallons tops. No more than that, because that's a lot of work considering I have a full time job alreafy

I hope you all realized you are being trolled. He has already moved on to a "monster pond" build in Florida. Sorry.
Dude, what is your problem? Are people not allowed to ask questions anymore? Are people not allowed to have multiple interests?

I don't know how else to say that I'm not trolling you. Don't know what the eggplant emoji means, but id imagine it's something phallic, lol

What??? It's because of u that I have diabetes. The eggplant is known for its anti-oxidant properties and high fiber content. Not only can it help reduce ur chances of cancer, but prevent constipation. Ur a troll bro, just responding to u is giving me diarrhea

jk jk jk, just messing with u. Yeah dont no what the other guy was talking bout u. Feel free to ask questions if ur sincere bout it.
