I just purchased a Tigrinus, and now I have the fever. I am looking to buy a Wyckii, but i dont know where to get one at all, or the orinocoense (I guess part of the shovel nose genus). I have read that they don't get bigger then 20''s. Can someone help me and also I keep all my fish alone so the more aggressive the better. Maybe there is another beast catfish that I am unsure about. Hopefully you can help Thanks ahead of time.

I heard, but the thing is that I have alot of tanks and dont like communities. So I'm pretty much asking about the baddest of the bad catfish that cant have tank mates. Wyckii are very appealing and I'm looking for one, however I am new to catfish since I only have a 4" tig in a 180 by himself. now i'm trying to stock other tanks with diferent catfish mainly the super aggressive ones that cant have tankmates;)

Where are you located? I've got a pair of tsn that were purchased as orinocensis several months ago and I'm considering selling the larger of the 2 as its growing faster than the other by a pretty good margin.

A few years ago wyckii were more available, not widely, but more. IDK what happened but they are more scarce now. It seems guys in your neighborhood, NE USA, do come across them. You'd have to do a forum search - a couple of members bought wyckii within the last 2-3 months and they were from the north east. You can ask catfishtimmy catfishtimmy - I think he saw them recently for sale at his LFS. I'd like to get one too but have not come across one in years.

I did not see them when I lived in Rochester, NY either and bought 3 in 2009 when I traveled through Connecticut. In Waterbury. Lost them during my move to FL in 2011.

Pseudoplatystoma orinocoense I have seen only once offered for sale by Jeff Rapps of TUIC. You probably have seen the two recent threads where we have been discussing this. Jeff's sure they are the orino.

Wednesday13, our expert-in-residence I trust on TSN ID, is not sure but with TSN one needs to wait til they reach good size, maybe 1.5'-2' to become more sure of the species ID. Usually. Especially with the common species - fasciatum, tigrinum, and reticulatum. Does not mean always.

But anyway, we are sceptical because this is the very first time in our experience that someone offers an orinocoense. It's normal to be sceptical in this circumstance. I'd ask Jeff about it - whether he still has them or can bring in more. Needless to say, we all wish Jeff will turn out to be right.

I live 5 minutes from philly. If you dont mind where did you purchase your orinocoense? also is it confirmed to really be orinocoense? just asking,.

Also I just found out someone who has a Black Devil Wyckii, so i will be having that shipped out to me this week so 1 down and 1 to go:)

Thanks TBTB, like I said in my previous post I just came across a 9" Wyckii, so im geeked about that. Hopeully these Orinocoense are real and they can be available. I asked Mark from discus origins and Jeff to see if they can locate more and bring them in for us all, That would be great.

You have to make the wyckii it's own thread when you get it! A fish I want one day to try and comm in a large set up
