Im picking between the two tank im trying to buy,
180 gal 6'x2'x2' for cheap $300 or a 225 gal 6'x30"x2'
For about a $1k, what do you guys think is better

Honestly the 180g right now for $300 would be a great midway step till your 'lifetime' tank.

Personally if I were going to do a hardcore poly tank (with a possible future aro) I would want 96" x 36" x 24" (or taller)

My current 'lifetime' tank was what it was due to size constraints. So I am avoiding even looking at the monster poly like ansorgii or congicus. I was stuck with a 24" wide tank so I have kept fish that will fit there.

Either are fine unless you plan to get dozens of Polys.

180 for life is sufficient. $300 will leave u with more $ to get more polys, lol. Play with that for a while to see if you want to upgrade then.

my plan is leave my upper jaws in my 75g for now since they are still small then upgrade to a 150g once they get big, so far i have
2x sen 6"
2x gold dust 4"
2x polii 5"
2x del 5"

Then in the 180g if i get it, ill put
6x cb endli 5"
6x ornate 6"
2x volta 6"
1x lap 7"
I know im overstock right now but im planing to buy the tank before fathers day.

Don't worry about stock if you like water changes. Check this fella out. Had a 155 bowfront and made it work without rid x. This hobbyist was amazing! Look at is diverse stock....

Yeah i do alot WC, my usual wc is every 4 days 50%-60% but sometime when i get off early from work i do every 2 day 30%-40%.

Im to the point where I dont want to do water changes because I have to. Due to overstocking some put themselves in that position. I have been trying to keep my stock a little on the lighter side just to make like easier.
So in my 96" x 24" footprint (300g) I still have just the four polys.
In fact this is my entire stock:
Polys:
Weeksii 13"
Teugelsi 12"
Koliba 13.5-14"
Endli 16"

Cichlids:
Perarsei 14"
Red bay Snook 11.5"
Heterospilus 7"

Maybe its just me but as time goes on and the fish get bigger I just feel like they need their space.
