Yes and NoCan't a mantis shrimp destroy a glass tank?
*Yes, if you actively provoke it to smash direct on the glass like some jerk videos on Youtube LOL.
*With some cautions like put a sheet of acrylic on the bottom or re-enforce the glass surrounding its cave then accident would be minimal to none.
In my case:
I used all materials I already got like rocks and kitchen marble table top 1/2 inch thick and silicon them to the bottom and sides around its cave I created for my mantis shrimp, its love it and didn't modify much to suite its need, it's just pushed some sand from inside out to the cave entrance. You already saw my setup I don't give the mantis shrimp alot of options or changes to dig somewhere else in my tank for new cave. Also, it's cave area almost no light access so no point for it to go out and dig a new cave/burrow in open area with bright light. I made very thick sand bed from 3 inches up to 8 inches deep in some area and smasher mantis don't dig a deep burrow if you gave it a cave big enough for it to turn around and multi entry to go out and retreat if it feel unsafe.
**If you pay attention you would see the mantis watching me making the video (I did turn on some extra light for the camera and its kinda curious what's going on lol.
