9 Gold Jardini Comm Challenge

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Good luck with these they are hard to comm, but you are starting them out young a lot more chance to success. You wont see any fight untill they hit 10" plus, when you start to see any fighting or aggression I suggest you add more silver aro in there to lower down the aggression. But they again adding more fish, meaning more space for them.

I would also suggestion getting floating plant, like frog bit or other plants to cover the surface of the water. This will make them comfortable and feel like "home" in the wild. Other option I notice is light a dime in best.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I wouldn't suggest adding any silvers, not only do they require a larger set up, a jar will likely still pick on one. And you have many jars, adding another aro won't do any justice if it doesn't work with the 9 you already have. Maybe some cheap dithers at best, like tin foil barbs, but again I don't think it would make a difference, you already have a fair amount of fish together. The plants is a good suggestion while they are young, it'll make them feel more secure. And I think he meant to say dim the lights... I'm not sure but that can also make them more comfortable.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Looking good! Glad to see you have planned for unfortunate eventualities that may (hopefully not) arise. Good luck, keep the posts up, will follow with interest.

Ya... I hope it works out too!!! I wanna build by built-in wall tank NOW!

Well it's a little over a month... Here is some update vids. Added more plants and some more fish to the comm. The plants and driftwood really help give the Arowanas a break from the sparing. They are about 5-6 inches now.

Feeding on a diet of DIY food I make. Sweet Potato, Spinach, Hikari food sticks, Market Prawns, Tilapia and Salmon; blended, freezed and cut into small cubes. I give frozen bloodworms, beef heart and krill as threats.

Lots of torn fins and some missing scales. Started using API Stresscoat to repair some damage fins.

Here is some close ups of the fish. Sorry I'm bad at taking pics and vids.

Lovely setup. Few observations if you don't mind :-)

In the last close up video there seem to be good amount of water current. Aros will be much more comfortable with more or less static water, either turn the flow off or reduce the water current flow, they may be more comfortable overall.

Also it is best to see Aros swimming graciously and calmly than swimming around swiftly. Just try it and see.

Also the Aros seem to have turned black from their initial color (from when they arrived). May be due to stress etc. Just be watchful of them.

Cheers

Thanks! I need the flow to stop the Arowanas from fighting as much. The current distracts them.

As for the darker color, it could possibly be the tanning lamp or stress for the fighting.

Jardinis get dark not due to stress but naturally they're a fairly dark aro, you're setup is all black substrate and background. You should expect them to be black and get some nice reds as they grow.
