HITH huge treatment?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't know. And what I did, did not work for my rhom so I don't want to give you the wrong advice. Listen to RD. Is also try the Epsom salt treatment as I don't think it's much harder to overdose.

What do you think is the best way to gauge dosing with HexShield per pound of fish. The directions just indicate to feed as much as your fish eat in a minute.

Without grabbing a container and looking, I believe that the label also states to feed twice a day for 3 days straight, which IME should do the trick. The taste of Metro (and hence this food) is very bitter, so even with the mega dose of garlic fish do not find the taste uber yummy. Most will only consume so much, and IME most will stop eating it after 3-4 days, so an overdose of medication is pretty much impossible. Getting the metro, epsom, and garlic directly to the gut and into the bloodstream is key, which is why if your fish is still eating NLS Hex Shield is so effective. The amount of meds getting into the fish is still going to be a bit hit & miss, but in my experience it's safe, and effective.

Is this the treatment you are recommending to treat the HITH or something else? I'm a little confused you mentioned garlic and Epsom. So in my case where I would be soaking massivore pellets how would I go about making this medicine what would I need? Thanks

I heard that HITH can not be cured. It can only be stopped from getting worse. It seems like water changes are always a good idea.If you are running carbon in any of your filters can cause HITH. One of my Geo's got it a while back and I tried different meds. but none cured it. The fish was living with it just fine. However I did not like the way it looked so I traded it in. I would put it in a smaller tank and from there you have more options. Good Luck-

I am not looking to cure it just want it stopped where no further harm is present. My tank does automatic water changes of 15% daily and water parameters are perfect. This fish was infected when I bought her just need the best digestive way to cure or halt the disease.

Try NLS HEX. It is a pellet that is a mixture of epsom salt, metronidazole (what is in metro+), garlic and other healthy stuff. Essentially the various medicines put into a pellet. If they will not take that, then you can try soaking their food with epsom salt or metronidazole.

Once a fish gets HITH I think you can cure it but it makes them much more susceptible and it will eventually kill them. My rhom had HITH for about 2 years before it finally did him in. I have heard cases of fish living up to 7 years with HITH.

To the OP, I posted a link in post #4, just follow that info and then proceed as you see fit.

And yes, HITH can be cured (in many cases). Again, read the info in the link that I posted.
