Starting To Love Datnoids

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I just can't fathom the price tag on the bigger ones. It literally blows my mind years ago these fish were going for not that much and all of a sudden they made out of gold lol

xraycer, pellets are the key to your dat gaining size in a shorter time period.

Yea, I understand that, but I have a hard time committing to a starvation method to pellet train since its such a little thing. That's one of the main reason its in with my grow-out clown loaches. Hoping for the monkey-see-monkey-do will method will help.

Plus, I'm extremely patient when it comes to growing out fish......I'm just not in a hurry, when it comes to this part of the hobby

Well the thing is very few if any stores regularly stock many big ones so it is the fishkeepers who have put the time and effort into raising their small dats to near adult sizes who price them accordingly when they put them up for sale.

ID grow relatively fast. my 1incher grew to 10inch in 2 years on normal feeding. my other two is catching up in only a year

Well that's certainly a good thing then....after reading your post I was under the impression that you were kind of complaining about your dat's growth.

Nice feeding regimen.

I've had my little IT for almost a year now. It has grown a whopping 1/2" (at best) during this period. This is my 2nd try at Dats. I witnessed my first one died from sudden death syndrome after owning it for less than 2 weeks: it was swimming fine one moment, then all of a sudden made a few swim bursts then just sank to the bottom.

My little guy(?) is always up front and center, when I get near the tank, but still just ignores pellets, even as the clown loaches goes into a feeding frenzy, but as soon as the live/frozen food hits the water, it charges in like a lightning bolt pass the CL swarm.

Here's an old pic during the QT period. It was in a separate container because I was also QTing a much larger green terror in the same tank.

I eventually want to add one to my clown loach tank

I'm still amazed at 2in they rush the glass when they see me and seem to associate me with feeding
Good,as long as they show some interest then the y should eventually eat the pellets.I have had good training results with stuffing the pellet inside a small piece of shrimp.Just small enough of a piece to cover the pellet, once the dat is well onto eating the camoflaged pellets use less and less of the shrimp.
