Let's see your pentair fiberglass set ups

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I guess I can't help but wish that the windows were bigger on the big sized pentairs. I like the window size on the older 504 gallon above. The price point and ability to have it display through a wall are still interesting to me.

Smaller tank, optical illusion. The window is 55" x 18 1/2"

It is possible to frame in your tank, but you will have to get very creative. The "ribs" on the tank stick out 2" from the body of the tank. There is a 2" frame around the window, so the window is inset 2". Plus there is a 1" frame around the window.

I think with trimming, you could achieve a very aesthetic result framing the tank in.

I took some pictures of our still to be set up main tank. While the tank was not inset, with the trimming (four trims) it appears to be inset 1", and the front of the tank is 2" from the outermost trim.

With the tank window already recessed, it could easily be framed like any window in a wall.

I wanted our tank "pictured framed", so that is why we used so many different trims. It could have been done a lot simpler, but I wanted the tank showcased in the room.

That fiberglass tank that you took a picture of your cat in is 1,700 gallons?

Any chance you can post a picture of the whole tank and do you mind sharing the cost of one of those?

No. My fiberglass tank is only 504 gallons. It will be used as a sump tank for my main tank, a 15' x 4' x 4' acrylic tank. I thought he was asking the size of my main tank. My point was that with 2" ribs, the window of the fiberglass tank is recessed 2" in. It can still be esthetically enclosed in a wall, but done a little differently than if the window was flush with the wall. I think he can get a very nice effect enclosing his tank in a wall.

Yup I had been looking at the way the window sits in a bit but I appreciate the relative measurement of 2". I am pretty handy at wood working so it shouldn't be too hard. I will probably end up boxing it in with these really nice 1x4 walnut planks I found in my great grandfathers basement. I've been holding on to those for something special lol. They've apparently been aging down there for about 50 years.

I'm moving to a temporary house in about 3 months time to get my house sold. I'm strongly considering ordering one of these in the mean time since there's a nice basement with a slab and just already having the thing when I buy a new house. I'm sort of worried if I end up buying a house where there's no appropriate room to box it in but it could always be a cool addition to my regular "fishroom" quality tanks and not end up being the main showpiece display. With a price tag of under $1200 I don't think I would be upset if that was the case.
