So I have a young dovii pair in a 240 gallon. The first two spawns failed while the third suceeded....I left the fry in the tank for about a month so they could grow a little faster...Keep in mind since the pair is young is young (less than 8 inches or so) they only had about 100 or so fry. Over the month the strong picked off the weak and the amount of fry dwindled to around 10-15. TODAY I decided it was time to remove the fry so that the pair could spawn again. WELL the fry decided that today wasnt the day. Netting out fry is more annoying than spilling salt, more annoying than cleaning a blender after a smoothie....MORE annoying than bombing a dirted tank. These 10-15 fry put up the biggest hassle EVER lol. Lesson learned NET the fry out when they are wigglers because netting fry in a 8x2x2 is NO joke! anyways all the fry are in a 60 growout. I plan to grow and keep a female on standby in case of an accidental slaughter by the male. so much hassle for very few fry
and yes I have heard of the bottle trick where you invert the top of a bottle and fil the inside with food and wait for the fry to swim in but I just couldnt be asked to do so and possibly completely throw off the parents. lets hear your stories of struggles with fry.
