Armatus--3 years Old

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Lol......

I used to argue on the side of the whole big tank thing.....

Now here I sit with 2 more dead Armatus raised in a 10' tank. While thee ATF of almost similar size still resides flawlessly in a 6x2x2. Just doesn't seem right.

Sorry Don, for all the derailing :)

I think a big tank helps... but there are still walls and lids no matter how big the tank..lol
thats the way i think of these guys. must be much more delicate than atf.

2?

In process of loosing my big guy now......

x2 on the derail Don, sorry man.......

Maybe there is something to leaving them be the king????? Trev always had good luck and didn't keep much with his either......

Well sorry to hear that. And all the fish we keep would likely do better alone if you think about it, their solitary in the wild, but keeping them together is where the challenge and thrill comes in kind of, and you get to keep everything you like in one tank as well lol. But if you think about it, aimara grow better solitary, atf and armatus live longer alone. The fish that are solitary in the wild would do better alone in captivity. That's my opinion and thought processing anyway..

All three of mine did well for first 2 years. Then 1 started lagging behind in growth so I sold it off as I didnt want it killed. The dude I sold it killed in no time. Then the second killed itself off last fall by crashing the lid so hard it lifted it. Never was right after that, 2 weeks later he was gone. But I spooked him flipping the light on.
But this guy here has always been the largest and least Jumpy and is now very rarely spooked.

And you guys arent derailing at all. Type away.....

....I'm going to knock on wood for you Don. I've always stayed away from armatus in favor of dorado and atf always believing that armatus were more skittish and prone to injuring themselves. That being said I've been looking for one lately to try my hand with raising them.

My Armatus will be 3 this coming week. And he is still Rocking it. Even if he wont allow tank mates that arent flat
Beautiful specimen. Thanks for the update

I be,urge one guy had one for 5-6 years. Don't quote me on that though. He's looking good still, good thing he leaves something alone lol
You need to name your source, or it's just gossip

You may get it backward. It seems that ATF is more skittish than Armatus. From what I learn, Armatus could get stress from tankmate, stop eating and croak, while ATF does not handle temperature fluctuation well.
