Just a question after reading this.

With flowerhorns people are so lucky if they live 2 years or more (especially the newer strains of flowerhorns) they can be so genetically weak I wouldn't want to do anything that may potentially lower their short lifespan even more. The older strains used to live about 8 years, but now it's rare to see one above the age of 4

Longest for me was about 6 years. Mines usually pass away around 5 years old.

Longest is 3 years with me and it was two years old when I had it.

He died from unnatural causes...power outage

I don't plan on keeping the same Flowerhorn after 2-3 years old they tend to become needy

They constantly need to be watched over I guess. I feel like they know you so much the fish they can get away with anything.

It's like a woman you need to give them extra care and they will stay happy. You stop that care and they will get angry.

Hard to explain I can tell my fish behavior when he or she is excited to pissed off. When he's excited he'll start doing this loop thing he'll swim all funny. When he's mad hell dart back and forth and splash water haha

Lol so you basically emotionally shatter the fish by dumping them when they create a connection with you

Not at all on the contrary I keep them due to their personality. The 14" monster flowerhorn I was talking about I still have about 2 years now. I won't be giving him away at all.

What I was getting at is that the longer you keep these flowerhorn you get attached and so do they. They have personalities not like other fish I've seen. I had a King Kamfa who would let me pet him and he protects me in the community tank from other predators. Hell stay by my hand and chase the other fish who wants to bite me. He was 12" and died from his kok getting bit off by his girlfriend.

If I kept a flowerhorn above 10" that means it wasn't for breeding purposes and I liked the fish.

Most FHs died due to ignorance and lack care when they get sick from owners poor care (Im guilty too). Then they blame on the fish's genetics.
I believe they can live longer than people think If they are cared for well through their life time....
