Same scenario has piranha I guess, most people get them, keep them several years and then get rid of them.
Lol same deal with anything really, people get a significant other deal with them for a certain time and then on to the next, people get any species of fish, get used to it get bored of it and want something new, that's how it goes I guess. Not everyone knows how to settle for something. In this day and age that is rare imo, definitely with my generation, I have a girl I've only been with for 2.5 years, you older guys probably would look at it likes it short, people my age say we've been together forever

Well I'm hoping I'll keep my Aimara longer than I kept my rhom which was 17years. We will see.

2 years for me. But I had got out the hobby for a little while. Couldn't keep any fish I was interested in.
I also just back after a few years had to sell all my rays and tanks off when my marriage got rocky. I still kept small tanks but wasn't the same

I'm sure that to get one of these guys to over 30in will take 5-10 years in captivity at least. Hoping my guy goes from 7in to 18in in the next two years.

3 foot aimara from shark aquarium

Whoa, flashback.
That must've been 2007/08, if I remember correctly. Awesome fish. A true monster.

I think it's doable. Should hit atleast a foot in the first year and then slow down
