Hi all
Well my FH has had like a white growth above his top lip. And over time it has increase in size. I have added a picture.

Perameters
Amonia 0
Nitrate 0
pH 7.4
Temp 28 degrees C

Tank size 800 litters
Tank has one FH and Two Raphael catfish.

I do a 30-40 % water change every month.
I just did a water change and added some aquarium salt. The aquarium has been running for about 3 years.

Hard to believe your reading 0 nitrates on just one monthly water change less than 50%....but if you are....I want your seceret! Anyways, looks to me like some sort of infection. I would treat with azithromycin for fish.

thanks for the reply that fish guy.
Well maybe it's a bit more than 30% water change as I remove water then fill it up then remove some more water as I live in a hot country and the water comes out of the tap very hot. I don't want to change the temp too much so I do it that way. Also I only feed him every two days.

Regarding the infection. I have had a lot of success treating him with iodine directly applied to area. Would that work. Because I don't think I can get azithromycin.

Well for starters, up your water changes, at least for treatment, to like every other day or so....

add salt for a starting point as well.

what medications can you get there?

We can get pimafix melafix api general cure.t.c tetracycline.
But to be honest I don't like treating the whole tank. Do you think I need to treat the whole tank?

Get the general cure.

do you have a hospital tank set up or that can be set up? This is most likely a bacterial or fungal infection so the general cure will cover a wider range of possibilities.

If you don't have any other tanks then ya you'll have to treat the whole tank. Iodine is topical, it won't have an internal effect on the problem.

start with a salt dosage though definitely, as salinity can have an effect on bacteria and fungus

Thanks predatorkee, yes I have a hospital tank I will treat the main tank with salt and in a couple of days I will set up the hospital tank and add the fish then the general cure to the HT. Also I have already treated him with the iodine directly on the sore, from experience he will heal in a couple of day. Then he will be ready for the hospital tank..

Thank you for the help..

not a problem, good luck. Iodine is great for the actual sores and lesions, unfortunately it doesn't help the internal infection BUT that combined with the general cure and I'll bet your fish is good as new in a few weeks.

can you guys get methylene blue there at all?

Out of curiosity and to cover another possibility here...his lips aren't swelled up are they? Is he eating regularly? swimming actively?
