Red Devil starting to turn black

yes it's true that it's possible for them to change color patterns, and such growing up.

i have kept several of these species before, and most if not all these usually start out brown with spots/vert stripes, and what not. then over time as they grow, they eventually "peel", meaning turn red/orange/white and what not. once this "peel" has occurred, it's very unlikely it will turn back to brown.

how big is said fish?
and has it already been all orange or red?
any pics?
also what size tank is this fish in, and what other occupants?
why only do 20% WC every other week?

WOOT post 317 :) Sorry

This is my lil guy nd he does it usually with a water change. Still very healthy though.

I would do 50-60% weekly minimum if he were alone.
What other fish are in there?

Read up on nitrate creep on this forum if you really think you know better than us suggesting more. Do you use a test kit, assuming your from the USA you have great water if your on the mains, no reason why you can't keep at -10ppm after a water change.
Back on topic, very unlikely you will end up with a solid red fish if he is peeling black at 6 inch tbh. Fish above looks a bit BP in that pic, just a funny angle?
