Why Is It So Dead In Here?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I agree, but there's a slight difference between "heads up mate, your fish will out grow your tank in x amount of time" and "GET A BIGGER TANK RIGHT NOW OR GET LOST!" The first is helpful, the other may cause people to get offended and not come back, which only takes away from the knowledge we have here. If that makes sense?

So much for not naming names. Haha :P

Omg I laughed so hard at this... Probably harder than I should of... :D

Yeah definately.. sometimes you just want to verbally slap someone but you never know the circumstances.. realistically everyone cant start with a 300+ gallon and all the knowledge.. you need to fall in love with the hobby to make the necessary sacrifises more often than not..

Sometimes I want to verbally punch people, a verbal slap just doesn't seem like it would cut it sometimes haha. But I've found it's more effective to give a gentle nudge in most cases, and let's be honest here, its not good for the hobby to scare people away. As hobbyists we NEED other hobbyists to keep our hobby alive. If no one buys fish or fish products, nowhere will sell them, no one will make them, and that hurts us all.

Also, what I would give for a 300g tank! My 400ltr (approx 100g) is enough to bow my floor without the jacks under it.. :(

I think Facebook is partly to blame. I know I got sucked into Facebook and quit logging into MFK for a while. It was just convenient. But when I was setting up my first tank with a sump and needed guidance, it brought me back here. Facebook can be nice to scroll through pictures. But when I need experience and knowledge, MFK is where it's at.

Whenever i go on facebook a lot of it is my friends anime stuff i have no interest in. I have a solid wooden unit to put my 70 gallon on and that is placed on a solid concrete slab ao no worries about stuff bending

i can see the blow up of social media like facebook and twitter as a cause

or maybe the old crowd was just more fun than this new one

if i'm craving tacos, how does going out for a burger help my taco craving?

lmao, so the problem is fish nerds don't have much imagination

You're getting ahead of yourself.

There aren't enough of us fish nerds, if there were, there would be more diversity.

Duh

While I understand and agree with this...the problem is that the same exact mistake is being made over and over and over again. With a new newbie buying a RTC and putting it in a 10 gallon with no plans to buy a bigger tank. Us as humans are suppose to learn and better ourselves, so to a degree we do need those stuffy know it alls to tell the newer ones how not to make the same mistake that has been made thousands of times already.

I guess the know it alls get tired of being a broken record to everyone that comes here and posts for a few days then disappears.

Definintely. I dont impulse buy. I am learning as much about fish as i can so that i can buy without having to research or worry.

what i used to do was impulse buy to a certain degree because i had an lfs that would take practically any trade for credit so i was lucky

i bought an rtc for my 110g and as it grew too big i took it to that lfs and got supplies for it. when i had a fish i couldn't sell on here, i knew the lfs would take it for a trade for fish or supplies

i was just asking for clarity in response to your comment

and i disagree anyways. the issue is not enough people. i think the amount of people that log in daily is plenty. the problem is not the lack of people, it's something else
