I really am excited by the lap but am also super excited on the ansorgii. They just have a cool looking head to me. I cant wait to get these two into the 300

Here's a large faranah lap pics from living legend framcosco before he used of garnet sand. He once stated that he had up to 6 specimens at the same time and they each had different patterns and color hues. To me, there seems to be two types of faranah laps that stand out. One that looks mean w/elongated blocky head and one that's more subtle and more like a Guinean Lap.

I like the mean blocky head type, lolz

As for the more subtle type I'm referring to. All you have to do is look at the faranah lap pic history on mfk and youtube. ;-)

I'm not sure if this same knowledge applies to your fish as it did to mine, as they might have been brought in in different batches, but like I said in my thread, when I was talking to toyin he was telling me that the fish he has gotten in as faranah laps look similar to the fish he used to get in as sp. Dabola. Ever since the exporters started offering Dabola fish, these fish have been coming in under the faranah lap name.

Also if yours does the same as mine, as it becomes more settled in, it'll actually get lighter and you'll be able to see its patterns better.

Dr.B Dr.B thanks for that info. Makes sense about the two different looking Faranah laps cause Ive seen both types you mentioned. Mine has the elongated head but it does not look big and blocky. I think mine looks more like the Guinea lap (If it is not a Guinea lap, lol)

Dr.b im confused about something. Dmd said he purchased the lap under the nigerian lap designation. But if the dabaola/ faranah laps are both guinea then would something labelled guinea lap either be a faranah/dabola type lap or are the different than a plain ol guinea lap ?

Just a clarification NOT purchased as a Nigerian lap but as a Guinea lap. Toyin called it a Faranah (Guinea) lap. Ned who purchases polys from Toyin had them listed as just Guinea laps. So my confusion is what to call it. Is is a Guinea lap or a Faranah lap?

Well an update. They both look well and healthy with a little finlet damage on the lap and the ansorgii looking 100%. I fed tilapia yesterday afternoon and the ansorgii ate a lot and the lap maybe one piece. Last night I put in 7-8 krill and only one was left so someone ate.

It's really whatever you would want to call it. It's technically both, but I would call it faranah for clarification on where it's collected from. I'm not sure where the laps labeled just Guinea laps were/are collected from, but almost every variant is caught in Guinea so Guinea is more of an umbrella term.
