you say it is at 4 inches... i have a feeling it is a female , based on the yellowish hue on its body and it being torpedo shaped.
Around 4 inches , the male starts to bulk around and starts growing broader
I am going to say male, due to the speckling above the lateral line
This is a hard one hahaha. I think it's just a little young to tell.
Normally the lateral line, speckling and the amount of pattern on the fins is a good indicators. Your has quite a lot of pattern in the fins which normally suggest male but then lacks a lot of speckling above the line which could mean female. I think give it an inch if you notice that when it's chilled the lateral line disappear that would lean it towards male.
Which ever way it's a stunning dovii so in the interest of all more pics required
O, well comments like this make me glad I posted a pix and asked, cuz I couldn't figure it out either.......6 of my 7 Parachromis display traits from BOTH sexes, and I'm new to RTMs and Dovii, but TBH, I can't even tell if my damn JAGs are M or F and I BRED Jags for years LOLThe more I look the more I'm convinced it's male to much marking in the fins the lateral line isn't defined enough
Hard to get a pic of mine as they are on eggs again but have a look at the clean pattern of the female and the spread on the males fins
