snakeheads fit that bill. being cheap, can form a pair, dont appreciate too much water changing, active under right conditions and dont need lots of food.
Whaaaaaaat? Channa gachua is a staple food fish here and in the monsoon (i.e., now) they literally flood the markets!I have never seen a snakehead in person, one lfs had a gachua but took months to sell it. Ill look into those since i am going to redo the tank for fancy goldfish or snakehead in future
Channa is a rare beauty here. rarely imported, they might be more common in other parts of my country but not near where i liveWhaaaaaaat? Channa gachua is a staple food fish here and in the monsoon (i.e., now) they literally flood the markets!
I hopefully got over the overstocking phase some six years ago... I am a newbie in keeping a few of the often overlooked species in a single species(with my featherfin squeaker to invade personal space)tank, or a selection of fishes originating in waterways with similar parameters. If you're "true newbie" then I would suggest that you choose 1 or a pair of your favorite species or setup a cheap, an easy community tank and take care them for at least few months. If you can keep them alive then you can start looking for more better species or upgrade your tank if you really into fish keeper hobby.
Note:
No offend here cause "newbies" tend to over excited and overstock with impulse buying and tank crash few weeks later and get depress then quit...wasting all your time and money in short amount of time.
