So I was reading the end all mini monster thread the other day... one post says that the min. tank size for a senegal bichir is a 40g breeder. My tank will have more volume than that so can I put a senegal bichir in there ?

How about the 40 Gallon Breeder? It has a bigger base area... So can I keep more bottom dwellers there? A ropefish is an excellent alternative... although it will be difficult to come by. Channa bleheris are sub tropical (Found in the rivers of Northern part of our state)and temperature here regularly crosses 35 degree celsius. So, no channa bleheri. I would keep other channas, but the local gachuas have a tendency to be vicious (IME) and punctatas are too large for this tank. Channa andrao is a great alternative, but they have a high price AFAIK and growing out 6 for a pair cannot be done. How about a pair of Kribensis and a single Jewel cichlid? Would that work?
A pair of kribensis with some upper dwelling fish. Kribs can be crazy when they have eggs.
Ropefish need a largish footprint when they get big.
Jewels might get harassed by kribs or the other way round unless you have plenty of territory space
Hatchetfish, danios, tetras etc. Anything that can evade a cichlid and what better than fast shoaling fish?
You need a lid for hatchetfish since they are built to jump
Mine is with 2 african knives but he rarely come out, only for bloodworm or late at night. They also get very large so be careful
