Do you think poly have a bad eye sight?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
In these cases these are the ones we caught in the act or found dead, who knows how many 'blind' attempts were made that we never saw....

Ive seen my congi did the same thing a few times, one of the reason i put a egg crate. Its was vertical aline to the gap that my top have, look like a missle that was getting ready to lunch up, i saw it last night too and now my congi have blood on its nose caus of attempting to jump out, and it was funny cause i was watching the whole time cause it was feeding time and all the lights were off. So i dont know if it can see the gap even when lights are off or it know that there is a gap there for the air to come out.

Bichirs have a strong sense of smell to make up for their poor eye sight. This is what I read before and always believed, and my bichirs definitly seem blind sometimes going right by food looking for it.

Sike! Still beleive they can see.
+1, i just dont get it how they can see us from the other side of the tank if they have poor eye sight. Light on or off they know when someones is close to the tank.
Like DMD123 DMD123 mentioned his is in the hallway were there is a person always walking by and his polys are basiclly used to it and mine is in the garage and not use to human presents. So what i think is if poly see more people around they get used to it ,that shows polys dont have poor eye sight cause they can see people around the tank.

Following food. No smelling involved :-) she already taken a full tilapia load, therefore, not hungry.

That video was taken during the same feeding session. If I skip a day. She will follow where the food drequemtly before it touches water. There's more to their eyesight than what we know.

I'm sure they have a keen sense of smell, impeccable sense through vibration, hearing is probably outstanding as well. But they can see at minimum above average.

Enough about my opinion. What are your thoughts and experiences?
