I'm having a hard time wtih NLS pellets for young central american cichlids and most of it getting stuck in the gravel. I have a few bare bottom tanks, no problems. Yet I see really nice aquascaped tanks with gravel and wonder how in the world they are kept clean? Feed floating foods instead?

Feed more sparingly or get floating pellets. I'm not sure how small nls has for floating pellets but my jumbo fish formula floats. Try some probiotics like ridx powder there's a sticky around here somewhere.

Depends on type of cichilds you have, their diet,,, you would get more feed back if u listed your tank occupants & tank size

I'm sure they'll find most of the food that falls into the gravel though. They're always on the look out for food and don't mind doing a little digging.

This is why I changed to sand, it was almost impossible to get the uneaten food out of the gravel without a gravel vac. It wasn't a problem until I lost my geo and nothing was shifting the gravel, then it became a case of gravel + twice as many wcs or sand and a normal routine.

When I do my African boipe I want sand with smooth gravel patches here and there, because I like the look of gravel but hate the extra maintenance that comes with it. Maybe you could try this if you crack it with the gravel? That way you can have "low" maintenance gravel. :)
