Then your beam is not straight. I wouldn't worry too much about small gaps as I have seen it in big tanks on beam support.

Just for my sanity, would you mind posting a picture of your tank and stand? I have heard this before as well, but wasn't sure how true it is.

shim it with styrofoam or just put a sheet of stryofoam in size of the aquarium
dimensions.
