My 180g SA tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ya adding gold nugget plecos or Phantom Plecos or couple Snowball plecos is an option. just gotta add a water change maybe haha.
I'm an every other day water change clown. Ever since I've kept Discus I've been regimented with WC's. Fancy Plecos are difficult for me to find around here.

Nice i used to also keep Discus, I couldnt keep up with the Water Changes and had some trial and error with some. They are easily one of the most delicate fish to keep but probably my favorite.

I recommend you remove the brasiliensis before it gets big and starts attacking your other fish.It also has different temperature requirements to most of your other fish.

My 180g...
Considering adding a large group of tetras. Suggestions?

not really a Severum guy, but that doesn't sstop yours from being nice.....I AM however quite partial to Geos, particularly brasiliensis. Sweet set-up :D What all kinds of Geos are in there?

I may already know the answer, but as a fellow brasiliensis owner, i'm intrigued to hear you elaborate, as always

They're aggressive? Horrace was so placid! I kept black widow tetras with him for a while (widows tank was being fixed) while he was between 11-12" and he never hurt any of them... Or the BGK, or the dollars...

The way they're raised would make a difference wouldn't it? Horrace was always the only cichlid in his tank, always kept with fish that couldn't hurt him, never fed live food, well socialized with people and other fish and so on.

He was great! :) I miss him :(

Fish like satanoperca are easily stressed by big aggressive cichlids.
Brasiliensis may be placid toward non cichlid tank mates that it does not recognise as a threat.
When brasiliensis reach sexual maturity they can be very aggressive towards other cichlids of a similar size.
You my find the odd placid one, some fish do break the mould. Generally they can very territorial towards fish they see as a threat.

now that you mention it, before I moved my pair to their own tank, they were kinda mean to their tankmates......

Yeah, he hadn't seen another cichlid since he was 1" long in a tank with all his siblings. He was the only cichlid in his tank and the star attraction. If anyone bothered him, they got moved to another tank. Except that one time the BGK bit him, he deserved that :D

Frank,
Pretty sure I remember you commenting on it before, saying they act more cichlasoma than geophagus. I believe they are awaiting re classification.

yea, had that conversation w/ several people after it was brought to my attention......made more and more sense everytime I rolled it through my head - I agree, IDK if they should be Geophagus.
