Any advice is appreciated.

My Giant goby stopped eating last week, I thought it odd but my bichirs occasional fast. Today when I was looking at him I saw that he has a giant fleshy Tumour in his mouth. See pics below.

I am at a loss, he is a magnificent fish and I hate to lose him, nor want to see him suffer.

I am debating trying to surgically remove it, but I can see it has large blood vessels feeding it.

Tank is 200 gallon that has been set up for 3 years. Water Params are all fine. Does not appear to be environmental

Thats a tough one. Given the size and location, I cant think of any treatment.

That is what I fear, he can't eat and I can't treat---- tough

I keep looking to see if I might be able to take the growth off with an exacto knife but the amount of blood vessels in it may just make it a messy euthanasia

Many years back I helped a fellow hobbyist that owned an N. venustus that had a large tumour in it's throat. I advised him to add an iodine supplement to his water - in that case it cured the fish, and the large tumour disappeared soon after. Might be a long shot, but definitely worth a try. I found this on google, so I didn't just imagine this. lol

I hope it works for you, Joe.

RD, thank you very much for this information. The info and image in the link are very similar to my situation.

Do you recall what iodine supplement you dosed the tank with?

Thats an interesting point RD. RD. I hadn't consider I deficiency but the placement of tumor is right. I've heard of deficiencies in saltwater but never considered FW. Please keep us posted OP

It wasn't my fish, it was some guys on a cichlid forum. I believe that he used an iodine formula designed for marine fish. I think Kent Marine?
