Lake Iliamna monster:believed to be a sturgeon of greatsize,occasionally flips boats,however most people say they have never caught a sturgeon there(but it only takes one dumped in the lake or swimming in from the sea.

Well I know there's a legend of a giant catfish that is said to live under Japan and occasionally causes earthquakes by wiggling about. Apparently some sort of sage keeps a stone pushed on its head to keep it from causing earthquakes and the catfish sometimes tries to free itself and causes earthquakes in the process

In Oklahoma there have been a lot of unexplained drownings,which has led people to believe something is pulling them under,suspects include everything from catfish(maybe)to octopus(someone failed high school).
Big flathead cats are certainly powerful enough to pull someone under.
interestingly enough that reminds me of a mythical creature known as the lusca supposedly has the head of a shark and the body of an octopus. also said to drown people often said to be spotted in the Bahamas mostly in and around the island of Andros
