I recently got a 4month old male saddled bichir who was not kept in the best condition from the previous owner. I currently have him a uncycled 10g tank (temporary until I upgrade) and he was doing great the first week and a half. Although he only ate 1-2 pellets a day, he was still pooping and acting normal. But just today, I come home with his eyes inflamed with very very very slightly cloudy color. Now, up to this point, I've been doing daily 50% water changes, cleaning up any food left overs and poop as much as I can, and his parameters were fine. I was obviously trying to avoid ammonia spikes at all costs. I also used Prime conditioner, API Stress Coat, and Seachem Stabilizer with each water change. I checked the parameters today, and I believe it was in the 0.25-0.50 range for ammonia. ph is 8.0-8.2, and his nitrite and nitrate were 0. Nobody could tell me exactly as to what is wrong with him, but I did 75% water change and added the Prime, Stabilizer, and Stress Coat again today. Some people said it was pop eye while others said it was some type of infection. Please help!

Hard to say if it's pop eye. It has that CB endli froggy look.

Anyway try this...Epsom salt 1 tbs per 5g, maracyn2 and prazi Pro.

Use ur 10 g is ur qt then watch the water as it will kill the BB.

Keep the water pristine. That's suggestion and good luck.

+1. I think that is definitely popeye though, I've never seen the frog goggle look that bad.

Agree 100% with the treatment, especially maracyn2, I've used it with bad cases of popeye with great success.

Do not put meds. Just start daily 90% water changes instead of 50 until the tank cycles. Do not let any ammonia or nitrite reading. The problem with his eye is due to water quality

could be dealing with a secondary infection due to water quality. Cloudy eye is easily cured with water quality, however I'd still advise medicating after a few days if the popeye doesn't reduce in size.

how is the poly? Think everyone is right that you are dealing with issues secondary to water quality. This could be reversed with good water quality but might need antibiotics for secondary infection
