So I recently bought 8 1.5' green terrors hoping to get a breeding pair to take care of and enjoy watching them. I've been looking for good sources for information on them but online seems pretty general and washed up. From what I've seen so far this community on MFK is really knowledgable. Maybe some one with experience could give me some tips or even tell me of a good book to buy for central or South American cichlids. A question I have for know is how long can I get away with 8 small G.T.'s in a 80g? Aprox deminsions are 48x24x16 or close to that. What size do they start to mature and show differences in gender? How soon could a pair form and would it be obvious? I'm just rambling off some questions I've been surfing the web for.

They can pair off pretty early. You will notice the dominant male out of the group with his female ray together maybe protect territory together, tail whip each other. They can get pretty nasty in attitude but I'm sure you can get rid of the rest once the pair forms. I have seen people here keep 1 male and several females in same tank but If tank is big enough. For your 80 gal you can have your pair of green terror and maybe some dithers would look great :)

Ime a dominate male will make himself known pretty early. I've seen them as small as ~2" full of color, looking like their about to form a nuchal hump.
I've also seen the spawn at a really small size too. 2-3".

Wow what a beautiful looking fish. Yea none of mine have a kok forming. the coloring on the face/tips of the fins are similar. Is that a hint towards gender?

So a good Lfs has called me knowing I was trying to form a breeding pair. Here's a picture of 3 possible males they sent me.

You experienced guy think any of them appear male?
