I live in bear country. I taught my family to always stay alert and we always walk the neighborhood with our dogs with us. And on long hikes always bring air horns with us. I love the bears and have respect for them.

.....and people around here complain about raccoons raiding their trash bins.I hate bears. They stink. Can't leave garbage cans outside, or the garbage will probably be strewn all over the place by morning. The neighbor's apple trees are all broken down from bears climbing trees for the fruit. They are a nuisance around here. Years ago, a bear tried to make off with a 50 pound bag of dog food from our open garage. I hate bears. And now I have been reminded that a bad sow might attack me when I'm outside...:![]()

Last year I was driving home at night and almost hit a large dark object in the road. The pick up truck ahead of me pulled over suddenly. Dumb yearling decided to run across the road in front of the truck. The driver pulled it off the road so no one else would hit it, and we both got out of there fast in case its mother lurking near by. One less nuisance bear in our neighborhood.
