That's the other thing I wondered about. I think I would need much more depth and lots of mud for them at the bottom.

Other than that red sliders are very easy and don't require a lot of attention. They deffinetly add to a pond
I'm not expert in keeping them outdoors but I'm pretty sure if you heat the pond and have a air pump going they'd be fine
Don't think so. I'm not sure what that is. I'm from Chicago.
Aerating the pond helps it to not freeze also during the winter turtles will go into a hibernation mode at the bottom and breathe threw their skin so that would help them as well.
through their skin? I know amphibans do that, but turtles? where did you read that?
I forget what they're called but they use those little growth type things on their skin like you'll see in the picture. Here's a post on Google explaining it further.
