Might be low grade intermedia. Idk about nigromaculata being pond bred but I know that intermedia are. Grow them out and let's see.A little update: I cannot resist of picking up two as I am afraid of someone outside of this community and pick them up and we will never know the truth.
Also, I got strange information from the seller. These fish weren't from SA, they were not wild caught, and they were from oversea.
Could the Asian been breeding the nigro in secret? just like the kels? or because they are so similar to the mono and it got mix up with the batch? or is this the result of inbreeding?

They look like some sort of mono hybrid. I wouldn't say nigromaculata or intermedia. You'll have to grow them out to find out what they'll become
