hardwood stand build still in progress

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That is a fantastic piece you have built. I love the detail especially the leaded glass, parquet tiles, and the top extending out around the custom post. Sorry if you already answered these questions, but did you have to cut each tile for the pattern or is that something you can purchase in a kit and how did you get the pattern to continue into the routed edges of the door panel? Also is woodworking a passion or a profession for you?

i am a site carpenter so its mostly trusses, stud walls, joists that kind of thing i do mostly building a house carpentry so i dont usually make anything as such..........the pieces for the door panels i cut on a mitre saw set at a 30 degree angle and are the exactly the same width ......i just used some digital calipers to measure them as if they are a fraction off it throws the pattern out.......i think i cut about 250 pieces then glued the 3 different timbers together to form a hexagon then once dried i glued all the hexagons together to form the panel......i then cut it square and used a panel raising bit in my router to raise the panels making sure the very edge of the panel was just under 6mm so it would fit into the rebate (rabbet) i put in the rails and stiles of the door frame

That's very cool. Thanks for explaining that process in good detail.
After reading the description and then looking at the pictures it certainly seems much more simple than I initially thought.
Simple, but ingenious none the less.

Again, Wow. Although I tend to prefer a more modern design, I appreciate your craftsmanship - I wish I had your wood skills.

That would be very expensive if someone had to purchase a custom stand like that. Awesome job :D
thats why i build my own as it saves a few ££££££ and i can play around with the design and tweak it if i dont like anything....i made some finials for the lid corners but they didnt look right with em on so i left em off as it looked like a posh coffin haha
