Hi, my ornate bichir has quite swollen eyes, it happened over night, can someone help me diagnose the cause and will his eyes ever get back to normal. Here are some pics for reference. Thanks.

I personally don't know what caused the swelling but suggest checking the parameters of the aquarium water asap.
what are your water parameters, whats your water change schedule like, what size tank?
we need actual info for diagnosis, but in the mean time I'd pick up some maracyn2 and keep it at the ready as this will most likely be your best course of action depending on your other parameters and whatnot.

its in a 385 gallon tank, water changes are either 25% twice a week or 40% once a week depending on my schedule. Ammonia are Nitrite low around 8ppm, and Nitrate is also normal. All the other fish in the tank are fine, could it be that it agitated it on a drift wood or something?
whoa...your ammonia and nitrite are at 8ppm???
and generally popeye is caused by water quality or a secondary infection from another illness so no the chances of him having hit both eyes off of driftwood is unlikely.
if your ammonia and nitrite are really that high then you have a serious issue. Polys are tough but if your aren't mistaken on your readings then you need to get your params under control asap, 8ppm ammonia will kill even the healthiest of fish.

ok, then if those are your readings I would begin treating with maracyn2, its a great med for popeye. I've used it multiple times with success.
