New to Polypterus - Substrate Advice!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
WC Teug are only offered in large sizes 15-18" plus sizes and ridiculously expensive these days $300-350 and up. It's due to rarity and difficulty of them being caught. WC have a more squared head/face and symmetrically thinned shape from head to tail. Usually brighter orange/yellows on them as well.

well that sucks, guess the place I ordered mine from is either misinformed or dishonest. Happens way to often in this hobby

CB Teug can look good too. Recommend them in an upperjaw poly environment only, because most can be obese. I wouldn't mind getting another growout once my lfs has them @ $40 3"

Teug is more rare if its wc, i dont like the look of cb teug, just ask DMD123 DMD123 :)

Are the cb teugs the more yellow ones? I've seen pics of some that are like radioactive yellow almost

As a CB teugelsi owner here are some thoughts.

CB look a bit 'off', a wc is a very elongated, sleek fish. In my opinion they almost have a rope fish build. The cb appear a bit shorter and they are not rope like but more tear drop with the belly area being larger.

Head shape is also very interesting with cb having more of a stubby face. The wc is more pointed. If you looked a picture of both side by side you would question if they were even the same species.

Here is the one and only redeeming thing I like. I think the pattern is better along with color in the captive born. The wc seem a bit dull in comparison. Again just my opinion.

Polyaddict86 Polyaddict86 , has both wc and cb endli, with them the wc definitely have better head shape and sleek look but the cb have awesome banding.

awesome, those pics are really helpful. As a relatively new poly keeper I always miss those little identifying features that you vets notice. DMD123 DMD123 thanks for the info, now that you describe it like that I've definitely seen pictures of both and have noticed the ropefish-like build of the WC.

Fortunately, I like the look of them either way, but I do think that at some point down the road I'm going to hunt down a WC
