New to Polypterus - Substrate Advice!

I just realized my gold dust has a little fin like Nemo! I've had her for 2 months but she hides so much I haven't seen her often. When I noticed it I thought maybe it was from a squabble but I looked at all the pics I have of her and it turns out it's been like that all along! doesn't seem to slow her down at all

I'm not sure, I think it may be a defect. It's not tattered or anything, it's normally shaped with rounded edges, not frayed like if it was an injury. And I looked at a pic when I got her a month and a half ago and it looks exactly like it does now. Wouldn't it have made some progress in that time?

Yeah, my Delhezi's fins grew back pretty quickly.
