What is your cleaning/water change routine and how long does it take you?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Depends what im doing on my 3 tanks during maintenance, if im cleaning cannisters, trimming plants and doing major work on my planted tanks, i can literally spend hours...

If im just doing more basic stuff then maybe 2 - 3 hours for everything...

My 125 I do two water chamber a week as well as my 220. But there on different days of the week so I have enough got water on hand to do them. My two 55 I do one large water change once a week on them at the same time.

I've got 2 tanks, a 55g and 125g
each tank gets a gravel vac when doing w/c's
overall time takes 30min-45min from start to finish

I do them at least twice a week, but if I can I do them every chance I get
I don't currently pay for water (it's included in rent)... since it's free water I do water changes every afternoon I can (usually ends up being 4 or 5 a week)

Filling the tank definitely takes the most time as I'm limited to the sink pressure. Draining by connecting to the closed loop is not too bad as the pump is rated 3100 ghp on paper.

Our times are going vary as it takes me 1.5 hour for a thorough vacuum where some here have no substrate to deal with. When I had plants it was even worse.

you have free water and your not running a r/o with a automatic 24/7 drip
system so you dont have to do wc at all? this is madness! lol..

Well, on my 5 gallon I siphon most of it every other day now that i am conditioning danios and fill it up via bucket.

the 15 gal gets about 60% weekly via bucket siphon and is filled up again with buckets. I have to fill them using the bath showerhead since its a mission to pull a hose up for the tanks.

The 70 gallon is interesting, we have a 50 gallon bin on our balcony for shower and fish tank water since we have heavy water shortages right now. so i take a small bucket and move the bin right outside my room on the balcony then move water, its quick. I just fill up again from the bath showerhead and buckets.

takes me around an hour in total. not too bad

30mins per tank? are you using a straw to do wc or something? lol
i finish my 6x3 cleaning and wc in like 10-15mins lol and i do fin level
wc... add another 5-7 mins to clean out filters. wth are you doing that
its taking that long lol
Using a straw lol

this type of stuff is exactly what I mean - variable variables you can't figure into the equation which may take different amounts of time each week
