So i decided to try and breed what is left of my Danio group, in my spare 5 gallon tank. This is my first attempt at breeding fish as well :)

I took the biggest female and the (only) male and put them in a net as to preserve the eggs and added some elodea with them, and turned the light on at 5:30 in the morning and went to sleep again, the female was visibly thinner 2 hours later when i got up and i could see some small transparent eggs using a torch as well as some infertile ones.

I have now drained about half of the water to make it easier to feed the fry, is there any other pre-prep i should do for them?

Also what is the best way to feed them for the first few days, i have hikari first bites available to me, but i believe they cannot eat it right off. My inforusia jars are not really producing but there is a fair amount of algae and floating plants as well as some detritus in the sponge filter, will they be able to survive off that for the first few days?

I will upload pics when this site starts working properly again.
any tips on fry raising are welcome, thanks :D

If you can hatch brine shrimp for them or there is a alternative product from Ocean Nutrition Instant Baby Brine Shrimp. Micro worm culture and be purchased online.

Your also right the fry will find micro treats on the sponge filter. :)

Congrats on your first breeding attempt. :D
Thanks, unfortunately i can't get or hatch live food, i don't have the facilities to hatch brine shrimp

Do the eggs swell and become more visible? the net was 5" off the bottom so the eggs are spread pretty far and its hard to tell whats eggs and what is not, do they swell at any stage?

Hendre Hendre I have some microworms. Only got them a week ago from someone else but if I can get some to you it might help. Where about do you live?

Die kaapstad, its fine though and thanks for offering, but where did you get them from? ill try without live foods for now and hope to raise a few. I can also do the yolk of boiled eggs as it is apparently a good food for fry :)
